Behind The Scenes: Yahoo! Answers “Handyman” Shoot

Tuesday, May 15, 2007 By Scott

The shoot took place on the “neighborhood” backlot of Downey Studios. 20 acres of surreal suburbia. Inside, the crew created rigs to spin pictures, pop ’em off walls, and even vaporize our hero. Have a look.

Take a look at at the finished product.

This was a joint production between San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles Ogilvy offices. SF shot an interactive version. NY shot a TV version. And LA pitched-in production resources.

The Concept: A regular Joe is asking the best way to straighten his pictures. You can then try your luck with advice from random people like your landlord or some guy on the street. Or, go with someone who knows on Yahoo! Answers. Either way, lasers are involved.

The rigs that spun the frames were testy and needed much TLC. Kinda like talent.

A false front on a fake house. How Hollywood is that?

The infamous RoboBeam 2600. Watch where you point that thing.

Fake natural light outside our fake house.

Fake natural light inside our fake living room.

Chipped a nail. Yahoo!’s gonna pay for that.

Satellite monitors for the peanut gallery outside.

You can spot Tyler on the front porch, inspecting the props and setting the RoboBeam for stun.
